Raya Financing has selected Temenos Core to support its expansion in Saudi Arabia, bringing retail finance, leasing and auto finance onto a shared technology platform. The planned deployment will run in a private cloud within the Kingdom.
According to Temenos’ official announcement, Raya’s decision centred on Islamic finance functionality, support for Shariah-compliant products and capabilities tailored to the Saudi market.
A Shared Core for a Wider Product Range
Raya intends to use the platform for its existing financing lines while preparing for a broader offering. Its product pipeline includes:
Personal finance for individual customers.
SME finance to serve business funding needs.
Buy now, pay later capabilities.
Home finance products.
These remain pipeline products—not confirmed launches. Temenos’ configurable architecture is designed to let Raya manage multiple offerings without extensive custom development for each one.
Centralizing product and transaction processing should also help simplify operations and shorten development cycles. Raya CIO Mohammed Makkawi identified flexibility and more efficient product delivery as key reasons for choosing the platform.
Local Deployment Meets Islamic Finance Requirements
The project combines three distinct requirements: domestic private-cloud deployment, Islamic finance functionality and capacity to accommodate growth.
That combination matters because adding financing products is not simply a matter of expanding a menu. Each offering brings processing requirements that the underlying system must support. Otherwise, the product catalogue grows—and the workaround catalogue follows.
The announcement places Raya’s expansion within Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 Financial Sector Development Program. It does not specify an implementation completion date or quantify expected efficiency gains.
A Broader Lesson for Fintech Expansion
Raya’s choice illustrates why technology planning belongs alongside commercial planning, whether a company grows organically or through a business acquisition. A broader licence or customer base does not automatically bring a platform capable of supporting additional products.
For teams mapping that build-or-acquire decision, N5Deal’s Fintech Builder provides a separate starting point for exploring a fintech project. The question highlighted by Raya’s expansion is practical: can the operating infrastructure support the intended business model without rebuilding it product by product?
