Mambu and Mastercard Collaborate to Streamline Global Cross-Border Payments for Financial Institutions
3 min read

Cloud banking platform Mambu has announced a strategic collaboration with Mastercard to streamline cross-border payments for retail banks and digital lenders globally.

The agreement introduces a pre-configured bridge between Mastercard Move—Mastercard’s portfolio of domestic and international money movement solutions—and Mambu’s Intelligent Core, an open, cloud-native banking ledger. By embedding these capabilities directly into the core orchestration layer, the companies aim to help financial institutions launch modern remittance journeys without rebuilding their existing infrastructure.

Eliminating Correspondent Banking Bottlenecks

Developing cross-border capabilities from scratch has long been an expensive, multi-year hurdle for mid-tier lenders and neobanks. Traditional international wires typically rely on fragmented correspondent networks, resulting in opaque fees, unpredictable routing times, and complex balance-sheet reconciliations.

Integrating Mastercard Move directly into Mambu’s composable architecture addresses these pain points across several fronts:

  • Global Endpoint Coverage: Financial institutions gain access to money-movement capabilities reaching more than 17 billion endpoints across 200+ countries and territories, supporting transactions in over 150 fiat currencies.

  • Pre-Built Core Integration: Because the payment logic lives inside Mambu’s core and payment rails, engineering teams can configure and deploy foreign currency transfers through APIs without extensive custom middleware.

  • Operational Transparency: End-to-end routing provides upfront fee clarity and deterministic settlement speeds, allowing commercial and retail clients to track outward flows in real time.

Expanding the Composable Payments Footprint

This rollout follows Mambu’s acquisition of payments-orchestration specialist Numeral, reflecting a continued push beyond ledger management toward full-stack payment lifecycle support.

As traditional lenders and digital challenger platforms modernize their transaction rails, many look to complement internal tech upgrades with external growth—whether through acquiring specialized payment processors or expanding cross-border licensing footprint. Industry dealmakers tracking transaction infrastructure often monitor financial sector M&A marketplaces to identify licensed fintech acquisitions, payment institution transfers, and operational asset sales that accelerate market entry.

“Adding cross-border payment capabilities shouldn’t require financial institutions to take on years of integration work or rethink their entire tech stack,” said Fernando Zandona, CEO at Mambu. “By integrating Mambu’s Intelligent Core with Mastercard Move, we are giving our customers a simpler way to introduce these capabilities, accelerate time to market and continue building on the investments they’ve already made. That’s the value of a composable foundation: it lets the Intelligent Core keep extending what financial institutions already trust, rather than replacing it.”

“Despite advances in digital payments, moving money across borders remains complex and fragmented, with people and businesses expecting greater speed, transparency and certainty,” noted Pratik Khowala, Global Head of Transfer Solutions at Mastercard. “Mastercard Move combines global reach with trusted money movement capabilities to help financial institutions meet those expectations.”

By pairing cloud-native account ledgers with scaled international clearing networks, Mambu and Mastercard are lowering the barrier for regional institutions seeking to compete directly with global transaction banking giants.
