British digital bank Zopa, serving more than 2 million customers across the United Kingdom, has introduced “Ask Zopa”, an agentic artificial intelligence assistant integrated into its flagship Biscuit account. The deployment marks a significant transition from traditional menu-driven mobile banking applications toward fully conversational, intent-based money management.
Engineered on Zopa’s proprietary AI architecture and reasoning engine, the system processes both voice inputs and conversational chat queries. It enables retail customers to execute transactional tasks, automate routine payments, and manage financial planning through natural language interactions.
Key Capabilities of the ‘Ask Zopa’ Agentic Framework
Rather than operating as a basic text-matching chatbot, “Ask Zopa” utilizes multimodal processing and agentic execution capabilities to complete financial operations directly within the core account environment:
Computer Vision & Transaction Execution: Customers can photograph physical receipts or digital invoices to split restaurant bills with contacts or initiate instant bill payments without manually inputting account details or reference numbers.
Natural Language Account Administration: Account holders can check consolidated balances, freeze or replace payment cards, generate statements, and update personal account records via verbal or written prompts (e.g., "Set up a savings pot for travel").
Proactive Budgeting and Predictive Guardrails: The platform tracks historical spending patterns to enforce user-defined guardrails and financial targets in real time (e.g., "Notify me if takeaway spending exceeds £100 this month" or "Help me set aside £150 by year-end").
Operational Metrics and Enterprise AI Integration
The retail launch follows broad internal implementation of generative and agentic AI models across Zopa's operating infrastructure. The bank reports that AI systems now resolve 65% of incoming customer support queries end-to-end, contributing to a 10% increase in Customer Satisfaction (CSAT) scores among users interacting with automated systems.
Internal development pipelines also leverage AI-driven workflow modules to train frontline staff and shorten employee onboarding cycles.
"Zopa is ushering in an era where managing money is as intuitive as having a everyday conversation," said Clare Gambardella, Chief Customer Officer at Zopa Bank. "‘Ask Zopa’ moves beyond static mobile app journeys into an intelligent system that understands context, anticipates financial requirements, and delivers actionable guidance in real time."
Financial Momentum and Governance Strengthening
The rollout follows sustained commercial profitability and targeted additions to Zopa's leadership:
Financial Performance: Zopa recently posted its third straight year of operating profitability, generating £65 million in pre-tax profits for the financial year ending December 31, 2025.
Governance Appointments: The digital lender strengthened its executive oversight with the appointments of Bruce Fletcher (former Group CRO at NatWest) and Dr. Paula Walter (former CTIO at Aldermore Group) as Independent Non-Executive Directors.
Industry Recognition: The bank received the Best App 2026 award at the British Bank Awards and holds a 4.6/5 Trustpilot consumer rating across its deposit, lending, and everyday banking product lines.
