SACOMBANK, one of Vietnam’s leading commercial banks, has completed a major upgrade of its Temenos Core Banking platform, moving from an on-premises deployment to a hybrid cloud environment supported by Red Hat OpenShift and IBM Power infrastructure.

The upgraded platform supports SACOMBANK’s retail and SME banking operations, serving millions of customers and processing approximately 13 million transactions per day. The modernization is designed to improve scalability, resilience, operational efficiency, and the bank’s ability to introduce new digital services.

According to the announcement, the upgrade has delivered significant performance gains, including:

  • A 200% improvement in application performance;

  • Deployment cycles that are three times faster;

  • A 50% reduction in server footprint;

  • Greater flexibility for future digital banking development.

The hybrid cloud environment provides SACOMBANK with a modern foundation for real-time banking, data-driven innovation, and improved customer experiences. By combining the flexibility of cloud technology with the reliability of IBM Power infrastructure, the bank aims to accelerate innovation while maintaining operational stability.

As part of its broader modernization programme, SACOMBANK has also selected Temenos Payments Hub to support cross-border payments. The move expands the bank’s use of Temenos technology beyond core banking and enables it to progressively enhance its payment capabilities through the same flexible platform.

Luu Danh Duc, Deputy CEO of SACOMBANK, said the upgrade represents an important milestone in the bank’s digital transformation. He added that the new platform will help SACOMBANK launch services faster and provide secure, seamless banking experiences for its customers.

William Dale, Managing Director for APAC at Temenos, said the project demonstrates the bank’s commitment to hybrid cloud modernization and supports its long-term growth strategy. Hilery Hunter, General Manager for IBM Power and IBM Infrastructure CTO, noted that the combined IBM Power and Red Hat OpenShift environment gives SACOMBANK the ability to improve speed and efficiency without compromising reliability.

The project strengthens Temenos’ position in Vietnam, where the company serves as a core banking technology provider for several leading financial institutions.
